The Role

We're looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our exceptional, multi-disciplinary research team. You’ll be working alongside machine learning researchers, computational and experimental chemists to solve some of the world’s biggest problems with cutting-edge technical solutions. As our first DevOps hire, this is a chance to own the DevOps function at a fast-paced venture-backed startup, and develop an infrastructure stack which can support complex and demanding AI and HPC workloads to accelerate fundamental materials science research. You will be supporting the running of high-throughput quantum physical simulations of atomic systems, the distributed training of large scale neural networks on the latest hardware, and deploying the containerized tools and services that enable our researchers to design and synthesize breakthrough new materials.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and maintaining a scalable, resilient, and secure infrastructure for the smooth execution of complex machine learning and computational chemistry tasks across GPU-accelerated nodes and HPC clusters.
  • Automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications, enabling researchers to focus on their scientific work without worrying about the underlying infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with researchers to understand their computational needs and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines, ensuring the highest levels of efficiency and reliability.
  • Use monitoring tools to maintain and optimize performance, reliability and cost across all operations.
  • Create and promote a culture of DevOps best practices within the organization.

Qualifications

  • A self-starter, who thrives in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • Passionate about advancing science with cutting-edge technology.
  • A team player who enjoys working in a highly collaborative setting.
  • A continuous learner, eager to stay updated on the latest DevOps practices and tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven commercial experience in a DevOps role (5+ years).
  • Strong programming skills (Python, etc.).
  • Proficient with IaaC (e.g. Terraform), container orchestration (e.g. k8s), and CI/CD tools.
  • Deep understanding of multiple cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.).
  • Experience with scientific computing and an understanding of the latest computational hardware, e.g. GPU acceleration,
  • Experience with job scheduling and HPC cluster management, (e.g slurm)

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Flexible working (2-3 days per week in London HQ)
  • Share options
