Chief of Staff

WNWN Food Labs

WNWN Food Labs

People & HR, Operations
London, UK
Posted on Monday, November 20, 2023

How to apply:

Drop us an email winny@wnwnfoodlabs.com under subject “Chief of Staff at WNWN” with a (thoughtful) cover letter or a short one minute video and your CV.

What are we up to?

We’ve developed chocolate without cocoa.

Why?

Because the way most of the world’s cocoa is produced and processed at the moment is unethical and environmentally f*cked.

It involves child labour and slave labour; and lots of it. And great swathes of land are being deforested to grow cocoa for chocolate-eaters, and producing 1kg of cocoa beans produces more greenhouse gas emissions than 1kg of cheese or even lamb.

We’ve come up with a way of making an alternative to chocolate—that tastes, melts, grates, snaps the same—but can be made in a way that avoids these problems.

We’re selling our products as ingredients to chocolate producers and bakery & confectionery groups, and also starting up a challenger brand to bring our products directly to consumers.

WNWN was selected for the Impact Fifty award, recognizing the World’s 50 ‘Most Impactful Companies to Work For’ 2023 alongside UNICEF UK, Patagonia, Headspace. (https://www.impactfifty.com/wnwn).

How?

Using whole ingredients and fermentation smarts. It’s what we call “very clever cooking”: a mix of traditional techniques with cutting-edge food tech.

Why do we need your help?

We are growing our team to go to infinity and beyond!

We are looking for a full-time, permanent Chief of Staff to be based in London. You should be legally able to work in the UK. We are planning for a start date in February 2024.

Love getting your hands dirty? Mega-passionate about sustainability and food? Super skilled at project management and strategy? Wanna dabble into organization development? Jaded about corporate life?

Well then. This could be just the job for you!

What you’ll do:

You’ll be supporting our dynamic duo co-founders and the team on this mission. We’d want a superstar Chief of Staff, who is a go-getter and is versatile.

You will be required to apply yourself to a variety of different tasks and problems, working with pretty much the whole organization. Potential responsibilities include:

  • Running special projects with multiple departments in the company
  • Sourcing new business opportunities, partnerships, collaborations, and events
  • Conducting market, consumer, and competitor research to inform high level strategy
  • Support fundraising efforts with Co-Founders & Finance Dr., both equity and grant funds
  • Troubleshooting & implementing systems for efficient internal communication
  • Running ESG projects, both internal practices and and external collaborations
  • Liaising with HR consultancy on all things HR, from compliance to organization design
  • Representing the company in conferences, events, and trade shows
  • Supporting all functions within the company on an ad-hoc basis

You’ll be involved in anything and everything! You’ll gain first-hand experience of what it really means to be an entrepreneur in an early-stage foodtech, how to build and scale a startup, and build a brand in a completely new market category.

Who are you?

More than anything we want to find great people to work with. If the above resonates and sounds interesting to you, then get in touch.

However in an ideal world you—our perfect person—would:

  • Have at least 2-3 years experience working in startups, consulting, or finance
  • Have an undergraduate degree and/or MBA
  • Have some experience in the food innovation space
  • Eat project management and spreadsheets for breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Be a natural go-getter who loves getting things done and done right
  • Be a team player, and remain chill when working under pressure
  • Be creative and good at thinking outside the box
  • Be organised, timely, and good at running projects
  • Be keen to get your hands dirty: literally, covered in chocolate, sometimes but also willing to apply yourself to new problems that you might not have faced before

You should also:

  • Love chocolate!
  • Be based in London and legally able to work in the UK
  • Most other things are negotiable but these two—unfortunately—are not!

What we’ll give you:

  • A competitive salary + stock options - because money makes the world go round!
  • Lots of freedom, autonomy and responsibility
  • Flexible working hours
  • Opportunities for professional development
  • The chance to work with like-minded, authentic, fun people who have lots of great ideas and dreams

Our take on diversity:

WNWN for everyone.

We’re an equal-opportunity employer.

We will consider all applications equally regardless of a person’s race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, or gender identity.

Moreover, we actively encourage individuals from groups traditionally underrepresented in the food and food tech space to apply.

Let’s fight climate change and inequality together.

How to apply:

If the above sounds like you, then apply! What are you waiting for?
